Basil Doc's Pizza came to Colorado by way of Pepe's Pizza in New Haven, Connecticut (on the outskirts of the Yale campus). The original Basil Doc's Pizza was opened in the Washington Park neighborhood (2107 East Virginia Avenue: 303-778-7747) in 1996 by Hilary and David Allen who had apprenticed at Pepe's. Their ultimate goal was to relocate to Denver and create their own pizza restaurant while David pursued his law degree from the University of Denver. In 1999, Mike Miller purchased Basil Doc's from Hilary and David and immediately educated himself on the entire Basil Doc's Pizza operation. Mike is a veteran of the restaurant industry beginning his restaurant career in 1978 after graduating from the University of Denver. After 13 years of restaurant management operations Miller once again graduated from DU (1991) with his MBA.

In July of 2000 a second Basil Doc's was opened in the Crestmoor area of Denver (330 Holly Street: 303-322-5832) which has brought the "THE BEST PIZZAS IN TOWN…" (2001 Zagat.com survey) to that neighborhood. In 2004 three neighborhood locations were opened (Virginia Village 1481 S. Holly 303.782.9900, Dillion, CO 970.513.0900 and Highlands 3940 West 32nd Avenue 303.477.5400.) You will find our energetic staff serving as the local operators at Summit Cove. In 2006 a location in Amarillo, Texas was opened with Brian Kelleher as the owner/operator.

So you ask what makes Basil Doc's Pizza "DENVER'S BEST PIZZA" (Bill St. John, KCNC News and 5280 Magazine). Each of the Neapolitan-style pizzas starts with a wonderfully flavored, perfectly flaky crust then adds chunky tomato sauce and tops the pizzas with almost any ingredient imaginable. The house salad is also on the not to be missed list when you order a Basil Doc's pizza: every house salad is served with a side of the "DON'T MISS THIS ONE" (Gabby Gourmet) balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Every Basil Doc's pizza is a work of art: hand-pounded dough, chunky tomato sauce, low fat mozzarella cheese and a list of toppings that will satisfy almost anyone's desires. Basil Doc's has created a loyal following with its "unique" crust ("a perfect compromise between thick and thin") and "delicious" toppings, resulting in masterpieces that "look like Van Gogh Paintings" (2002 Zagat survey top restaurant guide).

With all of this said the next time you are craving a pie that is the "tastiest, made to order, fantastic, east-coast style with crispy crusts" enjoy a Basil Doc's Pizza. Homegrown in Colorado!!!!
